Long-Lasting lubrication, Easily visible under UV Light

Krytox GPL 255 is a specialty grease with fluorescing agent additives to allow the grease to be easily visible under an ultraviolet (UV) light or “black light” to determine the uniformity of an application. Under ultraviolet light, the products emit a yellowish-green color that is visible to the unaided eye. Krytox greases are long-lasting solutions that have zero to low motility and should stay where they are applied. Exposing GPL 255 to a broad spectrum UV light can confirm the grease did not migrate. Also, when the grease is applied in an ultra-thin layer it can be nearly impossible to see with the naked eye; however, with the addition of UV light to the surface of the lubricated area, even trace amounts of GPL 255 become easily visible.

Increasing the visibility of the grease allows the end-users to be confident they lubricated the entirety of the surface, and to know when it is time to re-lubricate. Due to their inert nature and stability, Krytox fluorinated lubricants provide a much longer usable life as compared to typical hydrocarbon oils and greases, and the longer usable life allows them to remain for considerable periods of time before needing to be replaced if they are replaced at all. That translates to savings over time, both by lowering the amount of lubricant purchased and any downtime incurred during re-lubrication.

Why Use Krytox GPL 255 Grease?

The fluorescing agent is suspended in the Krytox™ GPL 155 because of the addition of our Krytox™ 157 FS surfactant to the oil. The Krytox™ 157 FS is acidic, and its effect on various materials is unknown. The grease matrix of the Krytox™ GPL 255 holds the fluorescing agent in place without the use of surfactant. This grease is not intended for routine applications as a lubricant without qualification testing.
