Opteon SF30 Chemours Precision Cleaning Fluid
High Solvency, Non-flammable, Optimized for Critical Cleaning Processes
Opteon SF30 precision cleaning fluid is a proprietary azeotrope of hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) specialty fluid and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene. It is designed for use in ultra-low residue precision cleaning for highly demanding markets, such as aerospace, automotive, precision electronics, and optics, where failure isn’t an option. It is ideally suited for use in vapor degreasing equipment. Its enhanced solvency power, compared to Vertrel™ XF alone, makes it particularly effective for precision and specialty cleaning with difficult soils. This specialty cleaning fluid has an extremely broad range of cleaning capabilities. It is ideally suited for use in precision cleaning, vapor degreasing, and ultrasonic cleaning. Additional information on typical soils that can be cleaned with Opteon SF30 can be found in Table 3 under Technical Data.
Opteon SF30 Metals and Other Compatibility
Opteon™ SF30 has compatibility with a wide selection of metals, for example, Copper, stainless steel, aluminum and brass. It is compatible with most plastics and elastomers, as shown in Table 4 under Technical Data. Individual elastomeric and plastic formulations can vary with the manufacturer; therefore, the best assurance of material compatibility can be recommended after testing under conditions expected during normal operation. Contact your local technical representative for specific material compatibility concerns.
Fluid Recovery of Opteon SF30
Due to the azeotropic nature of Opteon SF30, the product is easily recoverable by off-line or in-line distillation equipment, such as a vapor degreaser or still. The presence of soil, however, may alter the characteristics of the material during the recovery operation. Recovery should be closely monitored to ensure operating levels are maintained. Users should test the spent Opteon SF30 to ensure proper classification for waste disposal.
Safety & Toxicity of Opteon SF30 | Environmental Legislation
Classified as a nonflammable liquid by NFPA and DOT, Opteon SF30 exhibits no closed, open cup flash point or vapor flammability limits. Additional Safety, toxicity, and environmental data are shown in Table 5 under Technical Data. Vertrel™ specialty fluids have zero ozone depletion potential and low global warming potential (Table 7). They are used as alternatives to CFC-113, methylchloroform, HCFCs, and PFCs in many critical cleaning, drying, carrier fluid, and other high-value specialty uses where reliability is paramount. Opteon SF30 is accepted by the EPA under the SNAP program as a substitute for ozone-depleting substances. The components are listed in the TSCA inventory. One component, HFC-43-10mee, is subject to the Significant New Use Rule (SNUR) and should be used only in the indicated applications. See SDS Regulatory Section. Opteon SF30 is not a hazardous air pollutant (HAP) and, therefore, not subject to NESHAP regulation. Opteon™ SF30 is not included in the SARA Title III Section 313 list of toxic chemicals and is not subject to SARA Title III (EPCRA) reporting requirements.
