A thermowell probe end-user was looking for a thermowell probe lubricant that can fill the small air gap between the thermowell sheath and temperature probe, withstand high-heat, reduce temperature inaccuracies, increase temperature reactivity and serve as a heat transfer fluid against high heat applications.
What is a Thermowell?
A Thermowell is a pressure- tight sheath that protects and extends the life of a temperature sensor probes in processing applications where the sensor probe is not mechanically or chemically compatible with the process environment. Thermowells are sometimes directly installed into piping systems, Facilitating sensor probe replacement in high pressure pipelines and eliminate the need to interrupt the process flow or drain the process system for sensor probe maintenance functions.
What are Krytox™ XHT Lubricants?
Krytox™ XHT lubricants are made from Chemours proprietary fluoropolymer base oils and high performance thickeners. As with all Krytox lubricants, these products provide excellent lubrication properties and are chemically inert, thermally stable, nonflammable, and non-volatile, making Krytox™ the most robust family of lubricants on the market. Thermowell Probe Lubricant | Why use Krytox™ XHT-1000 Oil for heat transfer?
Krytox™ XHT-1000 oil is a clear, colorless, fluorinated synthetic oil that are nonreactive, nonflammable, safe in chemical and oxygen service, and long lasting. Due to their low surface tensions, Krytox™ oils easily wet metallic surfaces, and, because of their inertness, Krytox™ oils have little or no adverse effect on metals. Testing of metals at 340 °C (644 °F) in the absence of air has shown little evidence of corrosion. In the presence of air, corrosion was slightly higher. Krytox™ XHT-1000 Oil Solution | Thermowell Probe Lubricant
Krytox™ XHT-1000 oil is an exceptional perfluoropolyether oil with low evaporation rates for extreme thermal stability and long-lasting lubrication performance under incredibly harsh/corrosive conditions. Krytox™ XHT-1000 has a base oil viscosity of 1,023 cSt at 40°C and an estimated useful temperature range of -5°C to 360°C (23°F to 680°F).
